Set standards and stick to them

Our job as front-end web developers is to be sure that data coming from the back-end will be display correctly for the end users. That's means that users can navigate through the site and access to all the information. This simple sentence involves analyzing the information properly and deliver an universal and multi-cultural site. As developers can focus our work in monitoring, since the original conception of ideas and research through briefings+concept art (pre-concept/sketches) , to test the adaptability of a web application or project to many systems and paths to see the information. There are many mistakes in a development process that must be fixed:

  • Using older browsers out-of-date.
  • Problems viewing differente size fonts.
  • Inappropriate settings resolutions in browser behaviour.
  • Portability problems on other portable media as ipods, mobiles, and other similar gadgets.
  • Failures of compatibility between the server and run scripts.
  • Issues of speed or load balancing in data processing.

And if any of this happen, the project would be ruined and discredited. For these many reasons that we explain, we usually work with an order and a structure scheduled with some phases tested previously. If our task is limited to certain areas, we can always monitor the work done by us led to the later stages by other developers (web developers) in order to hang on the original aesthetic and quality desired.

In web development we often work with W3C standards, standards that allow proper validation in different formats with flexible and optimized reading of data from different layouts developed. If you are not considered in these areas, you'll be in serious troubles. Following the standards, you ensure that there is an integrated unit between the interpretation of data from different formats and browsers screen results (crossbrowsing).

  • Using archaic browsers or out of date.
  • The compatibility between technology and browsers (scripts JS/AJAX and some snippets mixed with normal codes).
  • Get similar results from different browsers.
  • Keep up graphic files without discredit lightweight quality.
  • Make available all relevant functions permanently.
  • Make a web environment 100% user-friendly.
  • Create intranets intuitive for users of any skill leve.
  • Mixing web design with marketing techniques.
  • Optimize layouts codes for a proper indexing at level of SEO / SEM.
  • Have a site to always reach a positive feedback.
  • Remove any obstacle or problem that may involve a negative feedback.
  • Work aspects of data rate.
  • Use optimizers at all levels of development process.
  • Develop powerful design tools accessible and visible without bugs.
  • Testing different stages in a comprehensive manner.
  • Open the possibility to do new constant changes in the future.
  • Keep the balance among programmers and designers.
